APC SETS FOR WALKOVER VICTORY AS EGBE-IDIMU LEADERS SAY PRINCE BALOGUN IS A 'UNIFIER'
WE CANNOT COMPROMISE OUR UNITY IF WE TRULY WISH TO DELIVER PROFOUND VICTORY FOR TINUBU IN 2027' -- BALOGUN
Story by Toyo C. Ngem & Mariam Jimoh
Emerging feelers from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission appear to give an implicit fact that no opposition party had successfully fielded valid candidate to challenge the ruling APC in the July 12 Local Government Elections. The feasible conclusion to be validly drawn about this is that many of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates might be going for a walkover victory on the polling day.
This came as Prince Idris Balogun, Chairmanship Candidate of APC was described as the party's "unifier" for the atmosphere of harmony that pervaded the ground finale of the week-long campaign activities. The ward round campaign tour of the party, which started last week was rounded up yesterday at the home Ward of the party Candidate -- Isheri Olofin Ward.
Speaking along this line, Prince Balogun said the party's unity could not be compromised at this time if the members in their rank and file truly desired to deliver a profound victory votes for the second term bidding of President Tinubu.
The Bacchus Garden at the Isheri Olofin Roundabout, venue of the event hosted all the party faithful from across the LCDA, thus setting the entire landmass of the Council agog and lightened with the flying parade of the APC flags. Live band music was provided by the popular parody of K1 the Ultimate who amplified the recognition and declaration of Oluomo Kaafata as the "APC Unifier".
In attendance to grace the occasion were the two First Class monarchs from the North and South of the LCDA. For the North is the Onisheri of Isheri Olofin, HRM Oba Olasunkanmi Ibrahim Bello Olanwa (Olofin IV). For the South is the Elegbe of Egbe, HRM Oba Ashimiu Olorunfunmi Dada Otta. Other weighty political figures present included member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Kehinde Olaide Joseph (Alimosho 02); APC State Vice Chairman, Chief Sunday Babatunde Aboyade; outgoing Chairman of the Council, Hon Kunle Sanyaolu Olowoopeju, who is to take his award of Civics Council Chairman of the Year 2024 on July 22; and other party leaders.
Oluomo, a Crown Prince of Isheri Olofin, arrived the venue at about 5pm after leading a long procession of supporters and party faithful round the streets of his Ward. Living true to his conferred honour, his first declaration was to reiterate his resolve to erase caucus mentality among the party members. He said his administration would see and be ready to work with only those who see themselves to be holding allegiance to APC only, adding that the greatest task before him was to deliver a profound victory votes for President Tinubu's second term of office.
He said: "I stand here to repeat myself, I am for APC and APC alone. It is true that caucuses are the bedrock of internal democracy of any party, but we have passed that stage after the primary elections. This is the time for our unity. We cannot compromise that unity if we are truly hopeful, if we are truly determined and if we are truly resolved to deliver a profound victory votes for our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the coming 2027 Presidential Election.
"That is the task before me and I believe it is the same for everyone of us here. This is one good reason why we must work in harmony. A good reason for us to stand and bind together as a strong force to decimate the coalition of losers when they come to Alimosho".
Meanwhile in a related development, the APC candidate might be facing a bliss of being the only validly cleared party candidate to stand for tha chairmanship election in Egbe-Idimu. This information goes by results of the Candidate Validation Committee of the Commission just released, a copy of which was obtained by Civics Weekly, the parent media of The County. It was found that the conclusion aassigned to both the supposed Chaimanship and Vice Chairmanship Candidates of the major opposition party screened for the validation had "Not Validated" for result.
If that position were to remain so by the close of business tomorrow, the polling day will be a mere cosmetic exercise.
